Television viewers in Germany are no different than most other European countries, and really those throughout the world, they want the chance to watch Hulu in Germany. The Internet just makes things more convenient and caters to the desire to get things instantly, so it is quite frustrating to know there are all these shows available, but only to those living in the United States.

It is not like you can't see American shows on German television, public stations ZDF and ARD will buy American movies, but they have to wait until three years after their release, this is similar to what the restrictions are in the US. Subscription networks can buy the rights but even then they need to wait a year. The Sky Deutschland AG, formerly the Premier Channel in Germany, has many American television shows on its channels including , MTV, Nick Jr, Disney, Fox, Discovery, National Geographic , and TNT including Turner Classic Movies. In fact they were the first to bring Lost to Germany.

Munich and the Foothills of the Alps
Amazon Price: $1.99
Episode 3 - Top Gear, Season 6
Amazon Price: $1.99
Among the Few
Amazon Price: $7.99

What happens sometimes is sometimes only a partial season becomes part of the package and you never know if for instance the entire run of Lost was run. If something like Lost was started a year or so after it was on in the US, it would be logical that fans would want to be able to watch Hulu in Germany so they could go straight in to their library and see the next seasons right away. It may make sense, but with Hulu being a joint venture of American networks, that cannot happen. Just like Americans can't go online and watch German programs for free, Germans cannot watch American show online. You must have an American IP address to be able to do that.

There has been talk that Hulu and the American television networks are “working” on licensing agreements that keep the copyrights intact and compensation at the levels they want, but for now that seems to be a lot of talk, and not agreements. So for now, the only thing to do is buy into an virtual private network system. These are the systems that help with Internet security by giving you a virtual IP address. When the server for the vpn company is located in the US, then have an American IP address and like magic, you would be able to watch Hulu in Germany.
